Morphine Sulphate Pin
In 1803 Friedrich Sertürner isolated morphine from opium, he called it morphine in
reference to the Greek God of sleep, Morphius. It was used widely as a painkiller until its addictive nature was realised. Heroin was then later formed from an opium base and used as a "safe" alternative to morphine. Morphine, cocaine, nicotine and caffeine are all amongst the more well known alkaloids - naturally occurring chemical compounds extracted from plants, fungi and bacteria. They all end with "ine" which is referencing their chemical classification 'amines' - Anyway, all that inspired me to make this little morphine sulphate pin! Isn't it cute!
